ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY'S NEW COSTUME WORKSHOP

Hidden Architectural Gem in the Heart of Stratford-upon-Avon

Where do you start when designing a modern building in a culturally sensitive location where a sympathetic, yet practical workshop building is required for a client as prestigious as The Royal Shakespeare Company?

Utilising a mixture of traditional brickwork and FastClad brick slip cladding, plus choosing a brick with the character to blend with Stratford upon Avon’s heritage, a truly unique building has emerged.

Creating the angles and support for a brick façade over windows designed to maximise the natural light was made possible using our system, as well as cladding the chimney style flues to the roof.

A building where MMC construction sits alongside Elizabethan architecture like a Midsummer Night's Dream.

Collaboration is Key

Working closely with the Aedas Arts Team to find a solution for the brickwork over the angled windows and provide a brick finish to the chimney flues was key, alongside providing both office based and on site installation training for Stepenell and their subcontractors to bring about a unique building.
